Bridgehill Car Standard XL — 24.6 x 32.8 ft

The Car Standard XL is Bridgehill's large-format vehicle fire blanket, 7.5 × 10 m, for electric and combustion vehicle fires. It contains flames and isolates toxic smoke without water, deploys in under a minute, and is reusable for up to 10 vehicle fires. Eyelets at one-metre intervals let it hang as a vertical fire sail.

Why the XL size exists

The standard 6 × 8 m blanket covers a passenger car. The XL exists because a growing share of what burns is not a passenger car — vans, long-wheelbase SUVs, pickups and light commercial vehicles all exceed what the smaller blanket can seal to the ground.

Containment depends on the edges reaching the ground on every side. A blanket that covers the vehicle but not the gap between vehicle and floor lets oxygen in and smoke out, which is the one failure mode that matters. If the fleet includes anything longer than a standard car, the XL is the size that seals.

No water, and why that is the point

An EV battery fire is not extinguished by water in any quantity a workshop has. Lithium-ion thermal runaway is self-sustaining — the pack supplies its own oxidiser, and water cools the surface while the cells continue to propagate underneath.

Containment answers a different question. Rather than stopping the reaction, the blanket isolates it: it cuts radiant heat to everything nearby, traps the smoke, and buys the time for the fire service to arrive and the pack to burn out under control.

In a parking garage or a workshop, spread is the loss. One contained vehicle is an insurance claim. One vehicle that ignites the two beside it is a building claim.

Reusable up to 10 fires, and what resets the count

Rated for up to 10 vehicle fires. That is a rating on the blanket, not a promise about any given deployment — a blanket pulled off a fire that burned hot and long has taken more out of its service life than one used on an incipient fire.

Inspect after every deployment. Deployed blankets, and blankets contaminated by smoke or chemicals, are non-returnable under Bridgehill's life-safety policy — the same rule that makes them safe to rely on makes them impossible to send back.

Eyelets: the second job this blanket does

Eyelets at one-metre intervals along the edges let the XL hang vertically as a fire sail rather than lie over a vehicle.

That matters in a charging installation or a workshop bay where the risk is not only the vehicle burning but the wall, the neighbouring bay or the charger behind it. The same unit covers a vehicle today and screens a structure tomorrow, which is the argument for the XL over two single-purpose products.

Who buys this size

Parking garage and charging-station operators, workshops and body shops handling commercial vehicles, tunnel and ferry operators, and fleet depots. Collision shops carry the highest exposure of all — a damaged pack can ignite days after the accident while the vehicle sits in the bay, unattended, overnight.
